So we hear you’ve been hopelessly shuffling from one trailer to another searching for the next series to binge watch! Are you also frustrated because it seems like you’ve seen all the best ones and the rest are pretty much the same? Well, we’ve got you covered!
Most of us who love to binge watch series and movies are naturally night owls. We have a certain kind of bond with the darkness and the nightmarish aesthetics that comes with it. And did we mention this series is titled “Dark”? Can it get more shady and mysterious?
The first thing you need to know about this German thriller series called ‘Dark’ is: you’re gonna need patience. It takes a while before the story picks up and gets you hooked. And as everything German, you won’t be able to get enough of it.

As the name suggests, the series is quite literally dark. Apart from the cinematic low light color grading and most of the scenes being set during the night, the real darkness are the broken homes, the ugly secrets and the brutal killings. Among the 10 episodes in the first and only season that’s out, the first few revolves around the four families of missing children over different periods of time. You can notice the eerie background music in these episodes that sends chills up your spine. The soundtrack is a musical feast and the cinematography is just as grotesquely beautiful. The series is indeed in German and subtitled in English but due to its brilliant cinematography and acting, you quickly lose yourself into it.
The Wikipedia page says that Dark has been compared with Stranger Things but we would hate it if you dismiss this series as just another supernatural ones because it is so much more than that. It is not made to ‘please’ the audience but a pure work of art. This series will not just give you chills but the non-sequential storyline will also stimulate your mind and finally unravel the mystery but still leave you with questions.
So if you’re looking for something to watch half-heartedly while simultaneously checking notifications on your phone, this is not it. But if you want the series to take over your mind with complicated mysteries and leave you with a melancholic aftertaste, watch this phenomenal series already!
